Effects of Poultry Manure and Biochar on Acrisol Soil Properties and Yield of Common Bean. A Short-Term Field Experiment

Common bean is usually cropped under rainfed conditions and in soils with low pH water retention, the sub-humid semiarid regions of Brazil. To improve soil conditions, smallholder farmers commonly use cattle manure. However, manure available limited amounts, insufficient to fertilize all cropping areas. Thus, other amendments, such as poultry (PM) biochar (BC), have been proposed increase retention pH. We evaluated effects BC (10, 20, 40 t ha?1; BC10, BC20, BC40, respectively), PM (5 PM), combination both amendments (BC10 + PM, BC20 BC40 PM) an absolute control (Control), no amendment, on physical, chemical, biological properties, common efficiency (WUE) yield. The treatments had total organic carbon, cation exchange capacity, microbial biomass physical evapotranspiration. Treatment (10 ha?1) significantly improved phosphorus concentration, enzymatic activities, WUE, yield this one-year experiment it can be a viable management practice for Brazilian region. further investigations are required study long-term field best performing amendments.
